Many people work at night. They work when most people sleep. In the UK, over three million people have night shift jobs. These jobs are in hospitals, factories, and stores. Night shift work is hard on the body.

Your body likes a schedule. You sleep at night and wake in the day. Night shift workers do the opposite. Their body gets confused. They feel very tired. They cannot sleep well. This is bad for their health.

Night shift workers get sick more often. They have headaches. They feel sad and worried. Some people get serious health problems. Their heart can suffer. Their weight can change. Sleep is very important for everyone.

How to Sleep Better

Night shift workers can help themselves. They can sleep in a dark, quiet room. They can use heavy curtains. They can turn off their phone. They should sleep right after work. Eight hours of sleep is the goal.

What Companies Can Do

Companies can help their workers. They can give workers time to rest between shifts. They can give workers three days off in a row. Some companies give extra money to night shift workers. Good breaks make workers healthier and happier.
