A man in the United States has achieved a medical milestone by living with a transplanted pig kidney for 271 days, or about nine months. This represents the longest time anyone has survived with an animal organ transplant. The patient received the pig kidney while waiting for a human kidney donation, which gave him extra time and hope during a difficult situation.
