Graduates increasingly rely on artificial intelligence to strengthen job applications, yet the practice sits uncomfortably between helpful and dishonest. Research from the Institute of Student Employers surveyed 155 major UK graduate recruiters and found them becoming more accepting of AI for writing cover letters and CVs, the most common acceptable uses. However, 92% of employers reported encountering or suspecting AI misconduct during hiring processes, up from 85% the previous year. The misconduct typically involves using AI as a real-time assistant during video interviews or completing online assessments, practices most employers consider inappropriate.
