A former engineer at OpenAI, the artificial intelligence research company, has been accused of working with the Saudi Arabian government to secretly record confidential meetings. Abdulrahman Alfozan, a Saudi national who worked at the firm for approximately one year, allegedly planted an audio recording device in a conference room where company executives met with government officials. The device, disguised and concealed behind a television set, was discovered on September 30. Federal prosecutors argue that Alfozan maintained frequent contact with a member of the Saudi royal family and received substantial support from Saudi authorities, raising concerns about potential threats to United States national security.
