Brazil's President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has secured a fourth term in a striking reversal, winning the runoff election against right-wing challenger Flávio Bolsonaro with 51.79 percent of votes. Remarkably, Lula became the first Brazilian president since the country returned to civilian rule in 1985 to win re-election after losing the first round. The margin of victory was decisive: a 4.4 million vote gap that undermines challenges to the result's legitimacy. Lula's camp had shifted momentum between rounds by emphasizing voter turnout, which rose substantially enough to overcome his earlier deficit.
