The UK government is urging employers to voluntarily disclose salaries in job advertisements ahead of new legislation that will make the practice compulsory. Prime Minister Andy Burnham argues that revealing pay upfront helps jobseekers, especially first-time applicants, make informed decisions without investing time in applications for positions whose compensation they cannot assess. The government also contends that salary transparency could reduce pay discrimination by exposing unjustified wage differences. A Cabinet Office consultation conducted over the summer found overwhelming support for the change, with 94 percent of respondents backing greater pay transparency.
