President Donald Trump has signed an executive order declaring the Oval Office a national monument, a move he says will prevent future presidents from altering the room. Trump, a former real estate developer, has made substantial cosmetic changes during his second term, most notably adding gold features throughout the space. He presented the order as a way to preserve what he calls a symbol of American greatness, stating that world leaders have complimented the updates. The executive order designates the Oval Office and its surrounding rooms as a protected structure requiring the National Park Service to maintain its historic character and architectural integrity.
